Assistant Director of Grounds, Vehicle Maintenance and Support Services, Mark Feist.

Mark Feist was named the Assistant Director of Grounds, Vehicle Maintenance, Support Services and Recycling at American University in August of 1996 after a successful 13-year career at the National Research Council (NRC).
Feist has organized a team approach to campus maintenance by developing zone maintenance procedures, and establishing both maintenance standards and a quality control review process for grounds, vehicle maintenance, and support services for the 85-acre campus. He has also implemented sports turf maintenance and recycling operational upgrades. Built into his position are the additional responsibilities of budget preparation, fiscal matters, administrative and personnel related duties, landscape installation, irrigation and hardscape maintenance and emergency snow removal.
In 2000, he was recognized by the Professional Grounds Management Society for outstanding professional accomplishment in grounds management. Several members of the Grounds staff have captured awards in their respective fields including the 2002 College Soccer Field of the Year by Sports Turf Magazine.
Prior to his tenure at AU, Feist held the positions of Facility and Grounds Operations Manager and Grounds Manager at the NRC. There he developed a comprehensive landscape maintenance program while managing a staff of 25. He was recognized by the Professional Grounds Management Society in 1982 for outstanding professional accomplishment in grounds maintenance.
After graduating from Delaware Valley College with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture, Feist spent two years as a Greenhouse Supervisor for the City of Philadelphia.
He completed the Facility Management Program at George Washington University in October 1993. Feist is a Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) and owns certifications in the District of Columbia for Pesticide Certification 3-A, B, and has a District of Columbia license to operate Heavy Equipment Class 7-B.
